The Stationsplein Centre is in an inspiring high-rise building, constructed with large picture windows to take advantage of views across this international city. Fountains play outside to create a peaceful setting in which to work. A number of both national and international service sector companies have made the building their base in this part of the Netherlands, and the city also hosts many large businesses including specialists in logistics, IT, medical and veterinary technologies, and life sciences. There are also several major call centres based here. Many key Dutch and EU government offices are in the city. The university has a highly respected business school, and the International School is now a designated United World College. Maastricht is known for its wealth of retail businesses - several large shopping centres have been extensively refurbished in recent years.
