The Mark One business centre is in Sendai's best located commercial development, immediately next to the city's main station. With a population of more than one million, Sendai is a prosperous commercial and academic city. It is the 11th largest in Japan with a vibrant economy reflecting the creativity of its residents. It has the highest growth rate of any of Japan's 13 major cities. Sendai is known as the industrial and economic centre of the Tohoku economic region in north-eastern Japan and is the hub of the region's logistics and transportation. Retail and services are the two most important sectors to the Sendai economy, the two industries provide approximately two thirds of the employment and close to half of the businesses in the city.
